How to Make a Construction Paper Person Chain
Making person chains out of construction paper is an arts and crafts project that many people learn as children. The effect is a row of people, all the same size and shape, holding hands as they form a chain. The chain can be used to decorate in a variety of ways, from tacking it to a wall in your child's bedroom, wrapping one around a present or standing it in a circle around a table centerpiece.

1
Set your construction paper down in front of you lengthwise so that the longest sides are at the top and bottom.
-
2
Use your ruler and pencil to measure out 2-inch marks across the top and bottom of the paper. Cut off any excess paper after your mark off the final 2 inches.

-
3
Fold your paper at each 2-inch mark, folding in opposite directions each time. Start from the left end, and fold a 2-inch tab of paper over to the right. Fold the paper at the next 2-inch mark, this time going under the paper and to the right. Your paper should now be folded up like an accordion or a folded paper fan.

4
Draw the figure of a person on the top tab of paper. You don't have to keep the paper folded when you draw your figure, and the figure doesn't have to be very elaborate. The important components are the head, body, arms and legs. Imagine your figure's hands and feet overlapping the hands and feet of the figures on each side of it. Each arm and leg should go all the way to each side of the tab, touching the sides.

5
Fold the paper back up into an accordion if you unfolded your paper when you drew your figure. Cut your figure out carefully, making sure its limbs soundly touch the sides of the tab as you cut.

Tips & Warnings
Your figure doesn't have to be just standing. You can draw your figure dancing or in another active pose. Just make sure a part of your figure is firmly connected to each side of your tab. If you want a longer chain than you can make with a single sheet of construction paper, simply cut out more person chains and tape each chain together.
