How to Host a Roleplay Event in "World of Warcraft"

There are places for many different kinds of players in World of Warcraft, and one of them is the role-player. Unfortunately this is the player that the game is perhaps the least friendly to, so it can be difficult for him to find activities and events to participate in. Hosting your own event ensures that you and the other lonely role-players on your server can have some fun.

Instructions

    • 1

Flesh out your character. Before you can role-play with other players or even come up with an appropriate event, you need to know how your character would respond to different events. If your character is a moral paladin who takes pride in representing Stormwind, he probably wouldn't be raiding Tarren Mill to steal Alchemy supplies.

    • 2

Create a story hook. For all planned events, there needs to be a reason for everyone to be there. Is it a wedding or a funeral? Is there a villain to be killed, or an ally to rescue? Decide all of this ahead of time, as well as some of the plot points, so the story for the event will run smoothly.

    • 3

Write down your story hook in novel format. Having it on paper and written from your character's perspective will be helpful to anyone else who wants to join in.

    • 4

Pick a date and time. Friday nights, Saturdays and Sundays are usually when the most players are online. Trying to role-play a funeral in Orgrimmar at 10 a.m. on a Monday is probably not going to work very well.

    • 5

Advertise your event. Post it in the realm forums, put the event on the guild calendar, list it any server-specific RP sites, and even just mention it in city trade. Role-play needs more than one person, so get as many different players in on your event as you can, to make it fun and interesting.

    • 6

Go with the flow during the event. Don't be afraid to toss your story points out the window if other players are coming up with their own. Forcing an event to run in one way or another takes the fun out of it. The plot points are only there to keep everything moving if things are slowing down.

    • 7

Friend everyone that role-played well and was fun to play with. This will let you send out specific whispers to them whenever you plan to host another event. Pretty soon, you'll build up a network of players who know each other's characters, and your RP events will become more and more elaborate, and also more fun.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you're new to role playing, it might be easier to get everything going if you plan your event around something that can be done in game, like a raid or PvP or a world event. It can be hard to keep role playing interesting if everyone is just standing around. While you can host an event on any type of server, you'll probably have the best luck on a RP tagged server.
