In today's always-connected world it is pretty easy to find people to connect with when they are online. By checking Instant messengers, social networking sites and even forums, among other things, you can see if someone specific is online and connect with him.

Sign on to your favorite Instant messaging service. If you know the name of the person you are searching for, try adding him to your active contact list. The Instant messenger will then notify you if he is online and then will place him in an "available" list, with a special icon or color noting his status.
