Connect XBox 360 to a Linux PC

There are a number of reasons why you might want to connect your XBox 360 to your computer. This connection allows you the ability to quickly access music, photos and videos from you computer with no need to burn them onto CDs or DVDs. This connection also doesn't require you to store any files on your XBox's hard drive, which will save valuable space for game save files and extra features. The connection is made possible with the Windows operating system, though-- while it does require a few extras steps--connecting an XBox 360 to a Linux PC is completely within the realm of possibility.

Install WINE. WINE is essentially a piece of software that enables you to run programs written for the Windows operating system on a Linux computer. As Windows and Linux are two different operating systems with two different designs, programs for one will not automatically work in the other. WINE enables your Linux computer to understand and execute programs written for the Windows Operating System. You can download and install WINE from http://www.winehq.org.

Download and install Google Media Server. This program, developed and released by Google, will allow you to stream any digital media on your computer over a wireless internet connection. Because the XBox 360 is ultimately not the same thing as a personal computer, the only files from your computer it will be able to run are media--pictures, videos, and music. Anything like a Word document or a program of some kind will not work on your XBox, so Google Media Server will not transfer them. Simply download Google Media Server from http://desktop.google.com, install the program, and select which files you want to stream.

Turn on your XBox 360. Under the "Network" system tab you will now see an icon for your Google Media Server stream. When selected, it will give you access to any images, music, and videos that you told Google Media Server on your computer that you wanted to stream. You can now play these files on your television set via your XBox 360.

This article assumes that the end user is tecnically aware. It has one major flaw though... q. how to connect a Xbox to a Linux PC a. with cables, but I wont say how or where.. As a comms engineer of many years I can see that the novice reading this would not understand exactly what to connect and where. A diagram would be of help to explain.
