Making your own rocking chair cushion is a fun project that can help give a room a certain look. You can customize the cushion to match the decor in any room, or you can make multiple cushions to allow your chair to match multiple areas of your home. Creating your own cushions also allows you to choose how much padding you would like, and you can also make it so you can adjust the amount of padding at will.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Choose the type of fabric you want for your cushion. It should match the area the rocking chair will be in and should feel comfortable to the touch.

  2. Step 2

Cut two pieces of fabric about 2 inches longer and 2 inches wider than the seat of your chair. If necessary, cut the foam padding to the size of the seat.

  3. Step 3

Place the two pieces of fabric right sides together and pin three sides in place about a 1/2 inch from the edge. Sew the three sides either by hand or machine.

  4. Step 4

Insert the foam padding through the fourth unsewn edge. If you want to be able to change the padding, sew a zipper to the fourth edge. Fold in the edge of each fabric piece about a 1/2 inch and sew to either side of the zipper.

  5. Step 5

Sew the fourth edge closed if you want to permanently close it. To make an aesthetic seam, fold in each piece of fabric about a 1/2 inch and pinch both pieces together. Sew closed with a whip stitch. This creates a seam that does not stick out from the edge.
