Replacing an existing storm door is a simple process as long as your have some time on your hands and a friend to help. The most important part is making sure that you have purchased a new storm door that is the same measurements as your old one. That way, you will not have to make any adjustments to the actual doorway itself.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Measure the doorway where you will be replacing your existing storm door. Make sure that you get this measurement exact, so you can avoid making any modifications to the doorway. An even easier way would be to measure your existing storm door and then get one the same size. Once you have your measurements, purchase your new storm door.

  2. Step 2

Remove your existing storm door by unscrewing the screws around frame of the door. If there is any caulk around the frame, use your utility knife to cut through it.

  3. Step 3

Prep the opening by cleaning any dust and dirt. Scrape away any excess caulking.

  4. Step 4

Connect the top rail of the doorframe first. This will serve as your starting point. Connect this with screws from the new storm door kit you recently purchased. Next, connect the side of the doorframe that has the hinges on it in the exact same way as the top rail.

  5. Step 5

Pick up the door and hang it on the hinges. This is where you will want someone to help you support the door, so you can make sure it is level.

  6. Step 6

Screw in the rest of the hinges and screw the remaining long rail in place.

  7. Step 7

Attach any locks or security chains onto your storm door.
