How to Decorate With Sunflowers

There is something bright and cheery about a sunflower. Maybe it is the beautiful yellow of its petals or maybe a sunflower brings back memories of lazy summer days, lemonade and barbecues. Whatever it is that attracts us also makes us want to bring the sunflower inside our homes. Whether it is a vase filled with sunflowers from our garden or merely a child's painting of a sunflower taped to our refrigerator door, sunflowers find their way into the decor of our homes and into our hearts and souls.

Instructions

1. Think of decorating with sunflowers as a brush stroke in your decorating scheme. Although sunflowers are beautiful, you do not want them to overwhelm your room. They should be a subtle accent that can be added to any room and any decor, whether it is country, modern or an eclectic scheme.

2. Purchase two or three stems of sunflowers from your local flower market and place them in a vase. This is perhaps the easiest way to decorate with sunflowers. Place the vase of sunflowers where you will see it every day, somewhere where it will make you smile when you enter the house--let it brighten your room.

3. Frame a botanical print of a sunflower. If it is a large print it can be placed over a sideboard in your dining room or in your foyer to add a bit of warmth and welcome. (Smaller framed prints can be grouped with other pictures.)

4. Shop for bathroom accessories that include sunflowers such as guest hand towels, a soap dish and a small wastebasket. These simple touches are an easy way to decorate your guest bathroom with sunflowers.

5. Shop for throw pillows with sunflowers on them as well as other flower prints (mixing your sunflowers with other flowers as you would a bouquet.) Adding these pillows to a couch in your family room during the summer months can help you to change over from the heavy fabrics that served you well during the winter months to something lighter and brighter.

6. Add sunflowers to your decor in the kitchen area by purchasing curtains or a valance with sunflowers on them. Remember just a touch, just enough to bring that lovely flower into the room.

7. Wallpaper one wall in your kitchen with sunflower print wallpaper. By doing one wall the sunflowers will not overwhelm the kitchen but will serve as a focal point.
