How to Cancel a WOW Subscription

World of Warcraft has become a global phenomenon, with millions of enthusiastic players worldwide. It may not be for everyone, however. Some people may find another MMORPG that they enjoy more, while others may become so addicted to WoW that canceling their subscription is the only way they can keep the rest of their life in order. In any case, canceling a subscription isn't particularly difficult, provided you know where to look.

Instructions

    • 1

Log on to the World of Warcraft site. (See Resources.) Click on the "Account" section on the left-hand side, then click the menu option labeled "Manage Account." A menu will appear asking for your account name and password.

    • 2

Once you have logged in, click on "Cancel Subscription." A screen will appear featuring a crying peon and a list of text asking you for your reasons. You can fill in whatever answers you like. There is a menu of general reasons, which you can embellish with a few words of your own. Blizzard Entertainment appreciates honesty, but try to be courteous and clear when giving your reasons. Constructive criticism may help them address whatever problem caused you to leave, rather than just dismissing your cancellation as the act of a crank.

    • 3

Scroll down to the bottom of the page once you have filled out the questions and click the button marked "Yes, Cancel It." Your subscription should now be canceled, and you will not be billed any further.

    • 4

Contact any in-game guilds you belong to or friends you may have met, and let them know that you have canceled your subscription. It's not necessary, but it's considered good form. Otherwise, your in-game buddies may wonder what happened to you or depend on you for support in the game--support you will no longer be able to provide.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can come back to your account once you have canceled it. Your character (or characters) will remain exactly as they were, and you won't need to start again from scratch. Simply enter your old login information and sign up for the subscription again. (Blizzard keeps old characters around because it's a good way to encourage resubscription.)

  • Blizzard won't refund any money you've already paid, but you should be able to access your account and play the game for the remainder of the time you have purchased. If you look at the paragraph above the "Yes, Cancel It" button, you should see a time and a date on which your subscription will expire. You can log onto the game anytime before that moment.
