How to Build Pyramids Out of Popsicle Sticks

You can create the skeleton for a pyramid out of Popsicle sticks and some glue. Then you can cover this with paper colored in any design you like. You will have a simple pyramid that is lightweight and can be customized to your particular preferences or needs. This activity is good for school or Scout projects because it requires no cutting of the sticks, only gluing. For best results, use a hot-glue gun on low or carpenter's glue.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

• Popsicle sticks
• Hot glue gun and sticks or carpenter's glue or white glue

1. If you are using a hot-glue gun, plug it in and let it warm up on the low setting. See warning.

2. Take three Popsicle sticks and form a triangle with them.

3. Glue the overlapping ends of the Popsicle-stick triangle.

4. Repeat steps 2-3 three more times so that you have four triangles made of Popsicle sticks. All of the triangles should be the same size.

5. Glue the ends of four more Popsicle sticks to form a square. This will be the base of the pyramid.

6. Glue the bottom of the four triangles to each of the side edges of the base. The base will be flat on the work surface, and the four triangles will be glued upright to the edges of the square.

7. Tilt the four triangles before the glue dries so that the four tops meet at the top of the pyramid. Glue the edges of the triangles where they meet along their sides and at the top to hold the pyramid shape. Cover the pyramid with paper if desired.

Tips & Warnings

• Do not let young children use a hot-glue gun, even on the low setting. For children under 10, use only white or carpenter's glue.
