How to Change the Battery in a Timex Expedition Watch
Replacing a battery on a Timex Expedition watch can be rather difficult, especially since you want to be able to preserve the watch's watertight qualities. While most people choose to take the watch to a jeweler to have this done, it is possible to do it yourself.

Make sure the little arrow on the back is aimed to the right. Then, insert a small flat head screwdriver into the notch on the edge, and lever the back open. Place the back to one side.

Unscrew the clip holding the battery (if your model has a clip), and remove the battery.

Use plastic tweezers to put in a new battery. Do not directly touch the new battery. Screw the clip (if it has one) back on.

Replace the gasket that seals the watch. Then lightly coat the gasket with a silicone-based grease.

Align the back with the little arrow aimed to the right again, then carefully press the watch between two pieces of wood that are being held by a small vise, until the back seats itself.

This is not correct for my Timex Expedition Digital Compass Watch bought within the last five years. #1 - My watch back requires a philips screwdriver to remove the four screws holding the back plate with o-ring in place. #2 - The rest of the instructions don't matter to my watch since I have to unclip four quadrant clips that hold the white component tray in place and this holds down my battery - which is a CR 1620, BTW. Maybe we can hone-in on the correct battery replacement information with this info? The ONLY product-specific information I can determine for my watch is the information on the back watch plate. For mine: reading from top. "Stainless Steel Back" "Timex" (wavy water symbols) "Water Resistant" "100 Meters" The SSB info is contained in a 'ring' about the back plate. The Timex and the rest is in four lines below that first text and inhabits a 1/2 circle on the top half of the watch back. Next is "CR1620" "820 L7" on two lines and occupying the bottom of the bottom 1/2 circle space of the watch back. My watch back is oriented so it is lined up with the watch strap, such that the Stainless Steel Back is toward one strap and the "820 L7" is toward the other. The watch back will NOT fit into the back of the plastic watch face/strap components any other way. So, I'll keep searching for my model's battery replacement sequence, because, I can see that this white component tray reassembly is going to make or break this watch. Which I'd like to have at least working for the next Kenduskeag Stream Canoe Race, but, preferentially for the next Penobscot Ebb Tide Race. Good hunting for those battery install manual helps!
