Space seems to be at a premium today in most homes. This toy organizer not only helps to get things up and off the floor, but is a great way to customize and add color to a room. Not only would it be great in a child's room for stuffed animals, dolls or trucks, but works well in a teen' s room where purses, hats and belts can easily be organized and out of the way.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 skein each color Red Heart Super Saver yarn: Hot Red, Paddy Green, Bright Yellow and Mexicana or any colors that will match your room.
  • Needle to take yarn.
  • 20" X 30" X 3\16" sheet of foam board
  • Size H crochet hook
  • Craft Knife
  • Scissors
  1. Step 1

    You Will Need: 1 skein Red Heart 4 ply yarn in Hot Red, Paddy Green, Bright Yellow and Mexicana or colors of your choice, needle to take yarn, full sheet of foam board and H hook or hook to obtain gauge.

    GAUGE: 3 Hdc sts = 1”, 3 rows hdc = 1”

    Abbreviations Used in This Pattern:
    Ch = Chain
    St = Stitch
    Sl St = Slip Stitch
    Sc = Single Crochet
    Hdc = Half Double Crochet
    Rnd = Round
    Beg = Beginning
    Rep = Repeat
    Sk = Skip
    Lp = Loop
    Ea = Each

  2. Step 2

    How To Make The Bottom Of The Organizer:

    With yarn and H hook ch-4, sl st to form a ring.
    RND 1: Ch-1, work 12 hdc in ring, sl st top beg hdc, ch-1, turn. (12 sts)

  3. Step 3

    RND 2-3: (2 hdc next st, hdc next st) around, sl st top beg hdc, ch-1, turn. (18 sts)(27 sts)

  4. Step 4

    RND 4: (2 hdc next st, hdc next 2 sts) around, sl st top beg hdc, ch-1, turn. (36 sts)

  5. Step 5

    RND 5: (2 hdc next st, hdc next 2 sts) around, sl st top beg hdc, ch-1, turn. (48 sts)

  6. Step 6

    RND 6: Hdc ea st around, sl st top beg hdc, ch-1, turn.

  7. Step 7

    RND 7: (2 hdc next st, hdc next 2 sts) around, sl st top beg hdc, ch-1, turn. (64 sts)

  8. Step 8

    RND 8: Rep rnd 6.

  9. Step 9

    RND 9: (2 hdc next st, hdc next 3 sts) around, sl st top beg hdc, ch-1, turn. (80 sts)

  10. Step 10

    RND 10: Rep rnd 6.

  11. Step 11

    RND 11: Rep rnd 6.

  12. Step 12

    RND 12: (2 hdc next st, hdc next 4 sts) around, sl st top beg hdc, ch-1, turn. (96 sts)

  13. Step 13

    RND 13: Rep rnd 6, fasten off.

    -Make one of ea color except for top holder. Make three for top holder.

  14. Step 14

    How To Make The Body Of The Organizer:

    RND 1-13: Rep rnd 1-13 of bottom, do not fasten off.

  15. Step 15

    RND 14: Sc 1st st, (Ch-4, sk 2 sts, sc next st) around ending with ch-4, sk 2 sts, sl st top beg sc, turn. (32 lps)

  16. Step 16

    RND 15-21: Sl st in next lp, ch-1, sc same lp, (ch-4, sc next lp) around ending with ch-4, sl st top beg sc, turn.

  17. Step 17

    ROW 22: Sl st in next lp, ch-1, sc same lp, (ch-4, sc next lp) 24 times, leave remaining lps unworked, turn. (24 lps)

  18. Step 18

    ROW 23-30: Ch-1, hdc 1st st, sk next lp, (ch-4, sc next lp) 23 times, ch-4, hdc last st, turn.

  19. Step 19

    RND 31: Ch-1, sc 1st st, sk next lp, (ch-4, sc next lp) 23 times, loosely ch-21, sl st top beg sc, ch-1, turn.

  20. Step 20

    RND 32: Sc 1st ch, (ch-4, sk 2 ch, sc next ch) 7 times, (ch-4, sc next lp) 23 times, ch-4, sl st top beg sc, turn. (31 lps)

  21. Step 21

    RND 33-35: Sl st in next lp, ch-1, sc same lp. (ch-4, sc next lp) around ending with ch-4, sl st top beg sc, turn.

  22. Step 22

    RND 36: Sl st in next lp, ch-1, work 4 sc in ea lp around, sl st top beg sc, fasten off. (124 sts)

    How To Edge the Opening:

    RND 1: With matching yarn and H hook and right side facing you join in any lp at bottom of opening, ch-1, work 4 sc in ea lp, sc evenly across sides and top around, sl st top beg sc, fasten off.

  24. Step 24

    How To Put It All Together:

    Using the bottom piece as a pattern cut out one circle of foam board for ea holder. With needle and matching yarn, sew a bottom to the inside bottom of the holder inserting foam board before sewing closed.

    To attach ea holder, sew the bottom of one holder to the top of another.

    Top holder: After all the holders are sewn together, sew one of the extra bottoms (will now be the top) to the top of the last holder. Sew the last bottom to the top inserting the last foam board circle before sewing closed.

  25. Step 25

    How To Make The Hanging Loop:

    ROW 1: With matching yarn and H hook ch-4, hdc 2nd ch from hook, hdc ea ch across, ch-1, turn. (3 sts)

    ROW 2-21: Hdc ea st across, ch-1, turn. End row 21 fasten off.

    Sew the short ends of the hanging lp together and sew to the center top of the completed organizer.
