There are many different ways to make CD/DVD disc covers and labels, and no need to buy a special program since you can use a word processor to create your labels. However, Roxio makes it even easier by bundling Disc Cover RE with their latest versions of Toast. This is a program that is installed on your computer when you install Toast, and many people don't even realize they have it. It is far easier than using a word processor to make labels. Check your applications directory to see if you have it, and if you do, read on to find out how easy it is to use Disc Cover RE.

Instructions

    • 1
      Open Software

When you open Disc Cover RE it will default to the Disc label tab. Notice at the top that you can also select templates for the front and back covers, as well as the spine if you are making covers for a full jewel case. You can also open a blank template and design your cover from scratch if you prefer. Tools are supplied to add photos, backgrounds and text.

      Select Template

Browse through the list of templates and see the preview in the image window. When you find a template you like, double-click on the template and then through the different covers and spine to make sure it is the style you want.

    • 3
      Edit Text

Simply click on the text to edit it and see the text in the preview window. Use the text tools to select the text attributes and colors you want for your project.

    • 4
      Add Movies

Click on the movies tab to add movies or images to your project. Select movies from iMovie and iDVD projects and the movie title will appear in a text box on your label. This is a lot easier then editing the text manually in a word processor. Edit the text and choose text attributes and colors as you did for your title.

      Edit Covers

Once you are finished with the CD label, select a cover from the tabs and edit the text and add movies as you did with the label. Again, you have complete format control over the text. If you are making a full jewel case, don't forget to edit the text for the spine

      Print

Now it's time to print the labels. When you click print it will open up a special printing panel. Here you can drag and drop the elements that you want to print. Notice that you can specify a specific Avery label from the drop-down box. Choose the Avery Number from the list. Select the bleed area and resolution. Before you commit to expensive label stock, print a draft on regular paper and assure the labels and covers are the way you want them. Load the label stock and print the label only, then load other specialty stock like gloss or matte photo paper and print the covers. It's easy, fun and quick to print excellent custom labels with Disc Cover RE.

Tips & Warnings

  • Apply the CD/DVD label carefully to the disc, making sure not to get any adhesive on the recorded side.
