Women who have large rear ends often dread shopping for a bathing suit, or bearing their swimsuits at the beach. But, if you want to take a dip in the waves or swim laps in the pool, sooner or later you'll have to take off the sarong and show your body.

If you want to minimize the appearance of a big butt, here are tips for choosing the right swimsuit for your behind.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Try on swimsuits at a store. Even if you make your final purchase online, you will find the most butt-flattering bathing suit style if you try them on. Bring with you either a mirror, or a friend with a digital camera, so that you can get a good look at the suit from behind.

  2. Step 2

Buy a one-piece suit, rather than a bikini, especially if you intend to swim and be active.

  3. Step 3

The way your swimwear is cut at the thigh will either hide or enhance a large butt. Choose a swimsuit that is angle-cut at the thigh. Avoid any high-cut styles.

  4. Step 4

Color is a great way to draw attention away from problem areas. In general, colorful patterns will draw attention away from your butt, while solid colors will highlight it. Select reds, yellows, greens, and pinks, and blues. Or, select a color combo that flatters your skin tone.

  5. Step 5

Choose a swimsuit that supports and flatters your bustline. If people are looking at your boobs, they won't notice your butt.

  6. Step 6

Buy a swimsuit with clean lines and flat panels. Texturing effects such as ruching, or twisted halter tops don't work on larger bodies.

  7. Step 7

Consider shopping at a plus size retailer. These shops are notoriously expensive, but they have a wider selection than regular department stores do.

  8. Step 8

Another option is to try on swimwear at a plus size store, and buy the swimsuit online cheaper.

  9. Step 9

Whatever suit you choose to buy, always suck in your gut and stand up straight when you wear it. This will improve your appearance all over and help draw attention away from your behind.
