How to Identify Narcotic Pills
Finding stray pills in the medicine cabinet is not uncommon. A lady may easily spill medication in her purse, or perhaps confuse pills while sorting medication in individual pill boxes. It is unwise to assume the pills are a specific type or brand. Certain medications can be harmful for certain individuals and may interfere with other medication, causing severe medical complications. Guessing can be a dangerous game. It is best to take the following steps to ensure safety.
Instructions
-
Consult a Pharmacist
-
1
Take the pill, or pills, to your local pharmacy and ask to consult the pharmacist. Pharmacists are experts in the area of medicine and may be able to identify medications, or look them up for further assistance.
-
2
Search online sources. For parents who may suspect their children of illegal narcotic use, there are websites to help identify the pills. Such sites have pictures of drugs, with explanations of the effects of each drug and the symptoms that can be seen witnessed. See Resources below for drug-identification information.

-
3
Consult your doctor. If you have a scheduled appointment it may be wise to bring the unidentified pills to the doctor for help and suggestions.
-
4
Talk to a nurse. Nurses are other appropriate professionals who may be able to assist you with drug identification. They also have access to medical drug handbooks and can search for answers.
-
5
Go to your local library, or bookstore, and look for books. You may find "The Physicians Desk Reference" helpful. You can also purchase pill books online at various sites. See Resources below for purchasing options.
