Things You'll Need:
- Wrench set
- Breaker bar
- Socket set
- Hammer
-
Step 1
Decide how you will access the shocks. You can jack up the truck for easier access, but it is more work and you can access the shocks without doing so.
-
Step 2
Starting at the rear, locate the shock between the frame rail and the spare tire. The shock will be vertical along the frame rail. You will find a shock in all corners of the truck. Locate the upper bolt and bottom bolt holding the shock in place.
-
Step 3
Remove the shock by unbolting the shock from the frame well. You will need two 3/4 wrenches to remove the bolt. Use one wrench to hold the bolt and the other to loosen the nut.
-
Step 4
Remove the shock and compare it to the new shock. Check for size differences and double-check that the bolt holes mount are the same.
-
Step 5
Install the new shock by bolting it into where the old one was removed. Make sure the bolts are tight. Replace the washers.
-
Step 6
Repeat these steps on the other three shocks.
