How to Make False Eyelashes Look Naturalthumbnail
Tricks for False Eyelashes

Fake eyelashes used to only be appropriate for glamor shots because they looked so...fake. But higher-quality materials, variable lengths and more-natural shades have created false lashes that blend well with natural ones. Here are a few tips to help make your faux lashes undetectable. Before you get started, however, understand the first rule of false eyelashes: You get what you pay for. Even "high-end" brands are very affordable, so steer clear of those dime-store specials.

Don't overdo it. Bigger is not always better. You want the false lashes to accent, not overpower, your eyes. Start with shorter lengths at first. Alternatively, try demi-lashes or partial lashes that you apply just to the outer corners of your eyes or in sparse areas. These come in short bands of variable sizes that you can mix and match so they blend in well with your natural lashes. They are easier to apply close to the lash line than a long, thick band of lashes.

Don't put mascara on the false eyelashes, but do put it on your bottom lashes. You want to balance the look. Put a little moisturizer under your eye; that way if you get some mascara on your skin it will wipe away easily.

Reconsider your makeup. You do not have to put on "loud" makeup to go with the eyelashes. Stick with your usual eye shadow and lipstick. You don't need to wear dark eye shadow, black eyeliner and fire-engine red lipstick with your new, longer eyelashes.

Look at your eyebrows. False eyelashes will emphasize them more so make sure they are looking good. Define them with an eyebrow pencil in a natural shade that blends in with the hair --- make sure you don't make your eyebrows too dark.

Buy eyelashes that require a separate lash adhesive or have a very thin adhesive band. The band must be concealed with eyeliner or eyeshadow, and the thicker the band, the harder it will be to do this while maintaining a natural look.
