New cell phones offer new features and sleek designs. Those latest features caught your eye and you now own a new cell phone. What do you do with your old one? Don't throw it away! While your old phone won't be able to make phone calls, many of the programs and functionality still work.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Cell phones do many things besides making phone calls. They include a calendar and scheduler, calculator, note taker, camera, etc. These features still work even if your service is transferred to another phone.

  2. Step 2

Use the calendar and scheduler as a "family calendar" or backup appointment calendar.

  3. Step 3

Use the notes feature for quick to do lists, small shopping lists, reminders, etc.

  4. Step 4

Use the camera for casual photos or as a digital photo frame. If your phone accepts a memory card, you can save photos to the card and then transfer them to your computer.

  5. Step 5

Some cell phones offer a voice memo feature. Use it to record your thoughts or to record a small, short meeting. Connect a portable set of speakers to the headphone jack for audience playback.

  6. Step 6

Use the address book to keep track of phone numbers and addresses of people you don't call on a regular basis or to keep track of a Christmas card list.

  7. Step 7

Your old phone can still male 911 calls. This may be useful for an elderly parent or family member.

  8. Step 8

Different phones offer additional functionality. Whether you use it as a backup digital calendar, camera, etc. don't throw it out. You won't be able to make regular phone calls but it can still provide you a lot of functionality.
