Not Panic and Stay Informed about the Swine Flu

It's true that most of us around the world are somewhat frightened over the breakout of swine flu. We possibly might be taking more cautious measures of how we handle our daily routines, and keeping up to date about the latest news of the possible pandemic. Although, it may appear to frighten us, we must stay calm in situations such as these.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Stay informed but do not read too much news. It is okay to stay up to date with the latest headline, or latest broadcast. But do not read every article, opinion, or watch every video so much that you scare yourself silly. Warning to all: the media can be stressful and harmful for your overall mental health.

  2. Step 2

Live each day and stay in your normal routine. If the illness has not spread in your area, continue to go to work, and send your children to school. Do not keep everybody home just because your are frightened. Do take extra measures to practice safe hygiene such as washing your hands, and coughing or sneezing into a Kleenex.

  3. Step 3

Make a plan with your family or those that you live with. Be sure to have extra food, water, and hygiene supplies in your home should an emergency strike or if somebody falls ill. Keep your home clean and sanitized. If somebody is ill, keep them isolated in another room, keep your hands washed, and keep all used Kleenex or clothing in separate bags.

  4. Step 4

Pray or take time to sit in silence to relax. With prayer and some mediation, you can take time out from all of the craziness and any news that may be frightening. Write in a journal to express any feelings that you might be experiencing. Talk with your loved ones and let them know how much that they mean to you, and you will be there for them throughout any hardships.

Tips & Warnings
  • It is okay to be a little frightened or concerned, but do not let it over-take your life or rule your daily routine. Continue to live your day, but be aware.
