Bose speakers come in many different styles, shapes and pre-packaged sets. Some types include small bookshelf speakers appropriate for an office or den, or complete surround-sound systems designed to work with your TV to create a movie theater-like experience at home. Learn how to set up your surround-sound speakers and Acoustimass module to replicate movie theater sound.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Bose surround-sound speaker set and Acoustimass module
  1. Step 1

Place the Acoustimass module on the same wall or in the same general area, but least six feet away from your TV and at least 3 inches from any other surfaces, including the wall. Position it so that the port---the speaker-like opening---is directed at the audience. Make sure the ventilation openings are clear and not blocked by furniture or drapes.

  2. Step 2

Position the left and right front speakers in a vertical line with the center of the TV screen. This will ensure that the sound and visual images match up with one another. The front speakers should be within 3 feet of the TV; otherwise, there will appear to be a slight delay between the visual and the audio when you are watching the TV. To avoid feedback issues, keep the speakers at least two feet apart.

  3. Step 3

Put the center channel speaker above the center of the front of the TV, and point the speaker torward the audience.

  4. Step 4

Stand the left and right surround speakers behind where viewers will sit. Adjust the speaker stands so that the speakers are at about ear height for seated viewers, and turn the fronts of the speakers away from the seating area just slightly. The audience should not be able to pinpoint exactly where the sound is coming from.

  5. Step 5

Fine-tune your surround sound system by playing excerpts from movies of varying soundtracks and intensity levels. Adjust as you listen to create the sound you like the best.
