There are many different types of hair-removal waxes specifically made for use on facial skin. Since the skin on your face is a lot more fragile and sensitive than skin elsewhere on the body, it's important to take a few precautions when removing facial hair with wax. If the wax is too harsh, the facial skin can become irritated or a rash may develop.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Pour a dime-sized amount of baby powder into your hands and rub them together. Apply the baby powder onto your face to the area where you plan to use the wax to remove facial hair. Rub the baby powder into your skin until it's invisible. The baby powder will absorb excess moisture in your skin, making the waxing process more efficient and less painful.

  2. Step 2

Heat up the wax in the microwave for about 30 seconds. Alternately, place the jar of wax in a hot water bath until it's melted and heated to your liking. Always test out the heated wax on your skin to make sure it's not too hot.

  3. Step 3

Using a small spatula, apply a very thin layer of wax onto the hair to be removed. Apply the wax in the direction of hair growth. You can also use a popsicle stick instead of a spatula. However, keep in mind that most store-bought waxing kits come equipped with a small plastic spatula and cut-out strips that can be washed and reused.

  4. Step 4

Place a small cotton strip onto the wax-covered area. Pat it down until it's firmly secured to your skin. Hold your skin taut and quickly pull the cotton strip off in the opposite direction of hair growth. Continue until all of the facial hair has been removed.

  5. Step 5

Apply aloe vera gel or a lotion containing aloe vera onto the waxed areas of your face. The aloe vera will soothe your skin, eliminate redness and leave your facial skin feeling soft.

Tips & Warnings
  • Choose a wax specifically formulated for use on sensitive facial skin, like Sally Hansen's Wax Hair Remover for Face or Avon's Skin So Smooth waxing kit.
  • Don't apply wax onto the same area more than twice; this can result in a painful rash or, in worst cases, a burn that will take a few days to heal completely. If you didn't get all the hair out on one or two tries, wait a few days then re-wax that area.
