How to Check Proxy Settings on Mozilla Firefox

A proxy server creates a protective barrier between an internal network, such as one run by a business or university, and the Internet. If a computer outside of the internal network needs to access information, the proxy server will prompt the computer for authorization, most often in the form of a user name and password, before granting access. The necessary settings are usually provided by the Network Administrator or Technical Support.

Check Proxy Settings in Mac OS X

1. Click on "Go" and select "Applications." Locate and double-click on "Mozilla Firefox."

2. Click on "Firefox" in the upper-left corner.

3. Select "Preferences."

4. 

   Click on "Advanced" and select the Network tab.

5. Click "Settings." Verify or set your proxy settings with those provided by your business or university.

6. Click "OK" when finished and then "OK" again.

Check Proxy Settings in Windows

1. Click "Start" and select "Programs." Click on "Mozilla Firefox," and then "Mozilla Firefox" to open the program.

2. Click on "Tools" and select "Options."

3. 

   Click on "Advanced" and select the Network tab.

5. Click "OK" when finished and then "OK" again.

• Some viruses or spyware may also setup a proxy to reroute traffic through their own computers. Knowing how to change or remove these settings can help restore your computer to normal usage.
