Tail lights and headlights are important for the legal functioning of your car. License plate lights often go unnoticed by drivers and passengers because they are not visible from inside the vehicle. Whether you were stopped by a police officer or you noticed the bulb was burned out, changing the license plate bulbs on a Volkswagen Beetle is slightly different than changing the same bulbs on other car models.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Flathead screwdriver
  1. Step 1

Note the lens over the license plate bulbs. You will notice a slot. Follow the slot until you find a small tab along the edge of the lens.

  2. Step 2

Stick the head of the screwdriver carefully above the tab and delicately work the lens until you can pull it out.

  3. Step 3

Turn the plastic piece behind the lens to the left until you can access the bulb.

  4. Step 4

Pull the bulb out. Insert the new bulb by pressing it securely into place.

  5. Step 5

Rotate the plastic piece back to the right and replace the lens.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can purchase a long-life bulb to avoid changing the bulb for an extended period of time.
  • Don't scratch the lens while removing it.
