Prom is a formal dance that many teen girls look forward to with great anticipation. Everything must be perfect--the dress, the hair, the makeup. On prom night most teen girls want to express a unique look that breaks away from everyday eye shadow routines. By using creativity to apply eye shadow for prom, a girl can take her eyes from an everyday look to a beautiful inspired look on this special night.

Choose a concealer. Concealers cover imperfections on the face such as slight blemishes. They help cover imperfections under the eye such as dark circles. Dab a small amount on the tip of your finger and gently smooth and blend it on the skin under the eyes.

Dab eye shadow base lightly across upper lids. Eye shadow base will help the actual eye shadow last longer. Eye shadow base and concealer are not the same thing. Using concealer can be too oily for the upper lid and cause the eye shadow to crease so invest in an actual shadow base.

  3. Step 3

Apply desired eyeliner on upper eyelid in the manner preferred. For a more alluring look, very slightly smudge the eyeliner with a fingertip.

  4. Step 4

Decide what color of eye shadow to use according to personal preference or to complement the prom dress. Use shimmering eye shadows that have a slight sparkle instead of everyday eye shadow. Spread the shadow across the upper lids using a finger or eye shadow applicator. Be sure to apply it evenly on each eye to avoid a mismatched appearance.

  5. Step 5

Select a highlighter color also in a shimmery tone, usually in a lighter color then the first eye shadow. Spread above the first shadow blending the line between the two colors of eye shadow. The exact area will depend on the kind of eye shape you have. Make sure all shadow is well blended from the inner to outer corners of the eye.

  6. Step 6

Line the lower lid with eyeliner if desired. Spread a thin line of eye shadow just under the lined eyelid. Do not go too far down below the eyelid. Add a touch of shimmery eye shadow across the first eye shadow as a final touch. If desired add mascara.

Tips & Warnings
  • Add mini eyelid stickers for added glamor. Experiment and practice different eye shadow looks before the big night.
  • If eye shadow is applied too thickly, blot of excess with a tissue. Do not rub it off or eyes can become irritated.
