Instructions

  1. How to Wear a Watch Chain and Fob

    • 1

Connect your watch chain to your watch and the fobs to the chain. A fob is simply a decoration that you hang from your watch chain, and it can be anything you want it to be. Popular choices include pierced coins, small medallions and other trinkets.

    • 2

Decide if you will be wearing your pocket watch in a vest (the preferred choice) or in a pants pocket. Depending on which pocket you keep your watch in, you may need a different connection on the end of your chain. A vest chain has a small bar that is put through a buttonhole, whereas a pants pocket chain has a ring or clip that hooks onto a belt or belt loop. For best results, keep two different kinds of chains on hand so you can always wear your watch.

    • 3

To wear your watch in a vest pocket, put the bar at the end of the chain through your center buttonhole. Once the vest is buttoned, anchoring your watch in place, keep your watch in whatever pocket is your nondominant hand. You should be able to check the time while signing your name.

    • 4

For wearing your watch in a pants pocket, hook the ring or clip fastening onto a belt or belt loop on the nondominant hand side of your pants. Make sure the chain hangs loosely enough that your fobs can still be seen, but not so loose that the chain is prone to catch on things as you walk by.

    • 5

Examine the way your chain and fobs hang, and adjust them as necessary. Grab the chain and use it to pull your watch out, just to make certain it doesn't catch on anything. Replace your watch and then go about your day.

Tips & Warnings

  • The metal of your watch and chain shouldn't clash. If you have a silver watch, wear it with a silver chain.
