Emo is short for emotional, and it essentially means being comfortable with one's self in fashion and feeling free to express emotions. Emos usually have an original look. Becoming an emo model takes patience, originality and motivation. In order to even be considered by modeling agencies, you must work your way up through applications, work and portfolios. Instructions

    • 1

Begin working on your body. Models are likely to be hired if they are healthy. Having good skin, hair and a healthy body are critical in the modeling world.

    • 2

Create a distinctive look. Alternative models (emo, scene, goth, punk) usually have original looks. Try a new hair cut that looks good with your face shape and in a darker color or with dark highlights. Wear clothing that fits your body nicely in darker colors or with alternative designs.

    • 3

Sign up for a model networking site such as http://www.modelmayhem.com and post your profile there.

    • 4

Create a portfolio complete with a few head shots, body shots and your modeling experience. Include any awards that you have won for photography or anything that is relevant to the position you wish to obtain (an emo model). It is also helpful to have a resume that cites your modeling experience and job history.

    • 5

Look for model castings (on websites, in your neighborhood, newspaper) and apply. Be sure to have your portfolio and modeling resume handy.

    • 6

Create a Myspace page and become friends with online modeling agencies.

    • 7

Make an online portfolio and website of yourself that hosts an image gallery, guestbook, job history, experience and anything else that you see as relevant.

    • 8

Submit your photos and links to your Model Mayhem page, Myspace page and website. The best places to submit are clothing stores that sell alternative clothing such as Hot Topic, Dark Side Clothing or Too Fast Online.

    • 9

Check on applications that you might have made and wait for that life-changing phone call.

Tips & Warnings

  • You should never have to pay in order for someone to photograph you as a model. YOU should be the one earning compensation.
