1
See your doctor. Hereditary dark circles may be a sign that you have another health issue, such as an inability to properly digest protein. Your doctor can determine if you have other issues that are contributing to your dark circles.

2
Wear sunscreen under your eyes daily. The sun's damaging rays weaken skin, making your dark circles appear worse. Choose a high-SPF sunscreen that protects against both UVA and UVB rays and that is safe for the face. If you'll be outside for extended periods of time, wear UV-protective sunglasses and a wide-brimmed hat.

3
Get at least seven hours of sleep nightly. Lack of sleep decreases circulation, meaning vital blood and nutrients can't reach your under-eye areas as readily. In turn, this worsens the appearance of your dark circles. With regular sleep, you'll notice an improvement in them over time.

4
Assess your diet. Poor nutrition, particularly vitamin deficiencies, will exacerbate hereditary dark circles. Aim to get your vitamins and nutrients from fresh, natural foods whenever possible.
-
5
Apply vitamin C to your hereditary dark circles. When applied topically, vitamin C lightens and brightens skin, thereby significantly improving the appearance of dark circles. You can find lotions, serums and creams that contain vitamin C in most drug, cosmetic and beauty supply stores.

6
Soak two tea bags in cool water for approximately five minutes. Place one tea bag under each eye and let them rest there for 10 to 15 minutes. The tea's tannins improve discoloration issues, thereby lightening your dark circles.
-
7
Place a cool compress on your under-eye areas. The coolness will decrease swelling and increase circulation, helping to lighten dark circles temporarily.
