How to Remove Orange Glo Hardwood Floor Cleaner

Elizabeth Grace

Orange Glo Hardwood Floor Cleaner promises to not only clean your wood floors, but to remove scratches and scrapes and to leave your floors with a brilliant shine. Unfortunately, repeated use can lead a grimy, streaky buildup that obscures the natural appearance of your flooring.

By using commonly available household cleansing materials, however, you can restore your wood floor to its original beauty.

Tip

Change your ammonia and water mixture every four sections so that it keeps breaking down the Orange Glo. If the Orange Glo is not coming off, you may be dealing with a very heavy buildup. Do not give up -- the ammonia and water mix combined with the ammonia-based window cleaner will remove the Orange Glo eventually. Just keep repeating the steps and buffing until the Orange Glo is removed.

Warning

Make sure that the area you are working in is properly ventilated. It can take a lot of ammonia to remove all of the Orange Glo, and even though you are diluting it, the fumes can be overpowering.

  1. Fill a bucket with a half-gallon of warm water and 1 cup of ammonia. Set the bucket on a folded dry rag to keep the ammonia mixture from dripping on the floor. Wearing rubber gloves, take a rag, swirl it in the bucket to mix the ammonia and water together, wring it out and lay it out flat on a corner of your wood floor so that you can work your way out.

  2. Leave the rag on the floor for one minute to loosen the Orange Glo. Rinse the rag in the ammonia and water mixture, and then scrub the area that the rag was laying on. Rinse the rag again and scrub the area one more time.

  3. Spray the area with an ammonia-based window cleaner and buff with paper towel. Discard the paper towel. Repeat.

  4. Move on to the next section until you have removed the Orange Glo Hardwood Floor Cleaner from your entire wood floor.

  5. Mop your wood floors with a gentle everyday wood floor cleaner to remove any traces of ammonia.
