Decide To Get A Perm Or Not

Getting a perm can be a big decision but, deciding whether or not to get a perm may be easier than you thought! If you would like to see what you look like with a perm simply roll your hair in the perm rods without using perm solution.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Perm Rods
  • Perm papers
  • A Spray Bottle for Water
  • A Towel to cover your shoulders
  • A Rat-tail comb (comb with a pointed, straight handle)
  • Someone to help you roll the hair
  • blow dryer
  1. Step 1

Make sure you have everything you need to roll your hair in perm rods. You will want to have someone who is experienced rolling perms roll your hair, to get the best results. You may be able to have your stylist do this for you, since you will not actually be "perming the hair" they will probably only charge you for a style.

  2. Step 2

Decide how much curl you want in your hair. Do you want waves or spirals? This will determine the size of rods that will be used and method of rolling the perm rods. The bigger the rod is...the less curl you will have, the smaller the rod...the most curl, etc. Once you have decided which rods to use, you are ready to begin rolling the perm. Be sure to have someone roll the perm for you, it is almost impossible to roll a perm on yourself.

  3. Step 3

Roll the hair in the chosen perm rods, if your hair feels like it is "pinching" or being pulled, then the perm rods are rolled to tight. You will have to re-roll the rod more loosely, not doing so can cause breakage in the hair. Once the hair is completely rolled, use a blow dryer or if in a salon you will probably sit under a hair dryer to dry the rollers.

  4. Step 4

Once your hair is dry, remove the rollers winding down in the same direction the hair was rolled. When all of the rollers are removed add a little shine serum and style the hair to get the best idea of what you will look like with a perm. Keep in mind that the actual perm will look more natural, and will relax a little after a few weeks.

Tips & Warnings

on 8/24/2009 If you want the curls to last for 2 days, I would use a light hand and add a styling gel to the water you are going to use as the spritzer. Add about 1 tbls styling gel to the bottle and fill with water to about 1 1/2 cups. Shake it well to mix. Then use this as your wetting agent, roll the hair on the perm rods, let dry per the ehow instructions. You should have a perm for a couple days. You can also add a hair spray after you style the hair for added keeping power. Perms and curls are so feminine and fun.
