How to Improve the World in Small Ways

How to Improve the World in Small Ways thumbnail
Making small improvements creates a better world for the next generation.

You can do many things to make a positive impact on the world. It's easier to do small positive actions on a daily basis than it is to do one huge good act. In the end, it all comes out the same. What seems small to you might also have a huge impact on just one person or thing. Doing your part will not only help the world, but it can make a difference in your own life.

Instructions

    • 1

Decide what matters to you, and make it your mission: the environment, the homeless, animals, orphans, the sick, the elderly or any number of causes. Focus on your chosen cause and do some research on what types of actions you can take to better your cause. By getting involved and taking action, you are actively making a difference.

    • 2

Write letters. Let your government leaders know how you feel and that you are concerned about an issue. Your voice makes more of a difference than you think. Write letters of not only concern, but of appreciation to organizations that have changed their ways or made a difference in a positive way.

    • 3

Volunteer your time. Volunteer for an organization you care about. Not only will you be making a difference for that organization and those who depend on it, but you might find that it helps you feel better about yourself.

    • 4

Be kind to the environment. Consolidate your errands to one trip. Support your local farmers by purchasing food at farmer's markets. Recycle paper, plastic, cans, glass and clothes by donating to the Goodwill or Salvation Army. Conserve water by turning off your faucet while brushing your teeth.

    • 5

Educate yourself about things you don't understand. When you understand something, compassion often follows.

    • 6

Decide to be a better person. Perform acts of kindness -- at least one kind act a day. Whether it's opening the door for someone, letting a car merge in front of you, or even a smile, it can make a big difference in someone's day. It can then turn into a domino effect where that person may pass it on to someone else.
