How to Remove Car Scratches With Super Glue

How to Remove Car Scratches With Super Glue thumbnail
Make scratches invisible with super glue and a little patience.

Scratches represent one of the most common cosmetic defects to plague cars, but that doesn't make them any less unsightly. Fortunately, most day-to-day scratches, such as those little nicks sustained from public parking spaces or even grooves from a malicious keying, only penetrate through the car's outer layer of clear coat. In this case, you can remove scratches with super glue, common items and a little elbow grease.

Things You'll Need

  • Soap
  • Sponge
  • Lint-free cloth
  • Super glue with applicator
  • Powdered paint
  • Small brush
  • Aluminum foil
  • Hair dryer
  • Liquid car wax

Instructions

    • 1

Clean the scratch and the surrounding area thoroughly using soap, water and a sponge. You can use specialty car washing soap or even dish soap. Dry the area with a clean, lint-free cloth.

    • 2

Apply super glue to the scratch using a fine-tipped applicator. Fill the scratch with glue as evenly as possible.

    • 3

Brush powdered paint, in a shade that matches your car's paint job, onto the super glue while it is still wet. Though you don't need an excess of paint, you should cover the glue with the paint completely. Rub the paint into the glue with your finger -- you can easily remove the super glue from your finger by peeling it off when it is completely dry.

    • 4

Rub liquid car wax over the super glue and paint, covering the scratch.

    • 5

Place a square of aluminum foil, cut to cover the scratch completely, over the area of the scratch.

    • 6

Blow dry the piece of foil with a hair dryer. Heat the foil for about five minutes to cause a chemical reaction among the glue, paint and wax. You may have to heat longer for bigger scratches.

    • 7

Remove the foil and buff the dry wax off your car's paint. The scratch should now be unnoticeable.
