How to Write Non-Fiction Books
Nonfiction covers a broad range of writing, running the gamut from essays to memoirs. There are endless possibilities for nonfiction topics. As long as situations are related as they've happened and no characters are invented, it can be called nonfiction. Although a writer relates real events in nonfiction, there is still space for creativity in writing a nonfiction book.

How to Write Non-Fiction Books
-
1
Select the type of nonfiction book you are going to write. Set a goal of what you envision the book will be, such as a memoir or creative nonfiction, to help you stay true to writing. A collection of essays will have a very different tone and diction from a self-help book. Selecting a category will drive your writing, and its purpose will channel to the reader.

2
Write truthfully. The main thing that separates fiction from nonfiction is that there's always the element of truth in the latter. Scenes and situations have happened, and opinions are real ones that the author or his sources hold. There is no room for inventing characters and fabricating situations. The main requirement is to write about real events.

Do interviews or cite sources. Doing research is essential for any piece of nonfiction, even when writing about your opinions. These elements aid your writing because they enhance its credibility. When you quote someone in your writing--- especially someone who can provide insights specific to your topic---it makes your manuscript more compelling. It adds different voices to the topic and makes it more interesting for your readers.

4
Organize and edit the text. This is where the goal you set before you started writing matters the most. Use that goal as a guiding light as you edit the text. Editing what you wrote allows you to take out parts of your manuscript that may confuse the reader regarding its truthfulness. Be creative in depicting scenes, but make sure that you don't misrepresent anything. Use subheads to organize the text and make it easier to read.

5
Send your work out to be published. Your writing, no matter how long the manuscript is, only becomes a book once it's published. You need to find a literary agent that will get your book in front of publishers, and/or write a compelling book proposal. According to the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America, nonfiction is easier to sell because it is significantly more published than fiction.
