Step 1
Type the letter you want to monogram on your word processing program. Browse through your font selection. Choose the style you want to use, or if you have a hard time deciding, choose 2 or 3 styles. Type the letter in each preferred font style in the point size that corresponds to the size of the letter you wish to monogram. Print these letters out.
-
Step 2
Cut each of your letters out. Use an utility knife to carefully cut out the interior spaces, such as the loop within a capital R. Hold your completed letter or letters against the object you want to monogram. Make your final decision on letter style. If you want to choose a different letter size at this time, print out your new letter size and cut it out completely as you did the last one. Hold it up to your object.
-
Step 3
Pin your final letter to your wool felt. Trace around your paper letter with tailor's chalk. Make sure to include all interior spaces. Remove the letter and cut it out with sewing scissors. To reach interior spaces, fold over the letter so the fold is present in the center of any loop or triangle and make a very small clip. Insert the bottom scissor blade into the clipped hole and carefully cut out the interior space.
-
Step 4
Iron your felt letter to remove any bunching or folds. Inspect the edges of the letter to make sure they are smooth and finished-looking. Carefully trim away any jagged edges.
-
Step 5
Pin your letter to the object you want to be monogrammed. Check to make sure the placement is exactly where you want it. Make sure the letter is taut, and that its tautness measures the tautness of the object being monogrammed. Thread your needle and carefully stitch your monogram in place using an overcast stitch around the edge of the felt letter.
