For designers who want to have a lot of autonomy over the work they do, programs like Photoshop Elements are great resources. Although Photoshop is known to be a great program to use for editing images, it can do much more than only that.

Many people prefer to do things like create logos in programs like Adobe Illustrator, however, a person can just as easily create a logo in Photoshop Elements.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Photoshop Elements
  • Computer
  1. Step 1

Open a new file in Photoshop by selecting "Ctrl+N" on the keyboard. A menu will open that asks you to insert size values for the height and width of the document. Assuming you want to create a square logo, making the document about 5 by 5 inches is probably about right.

  2. Step 2

Click on the "Layers" palette. On the bottom of this palette is a small "Create new layer" icon. Click on this icon. A window will pop up that asks you to name the new layer. Type in the word "logo" and press enter.

  3. Step 3

In the tools panel, you need to locate and click on the "custom shape tool." This tool looks kind of like a disproportionate star with rounded edges. A new panel will appear.

  4. Step 4

Click on the shape drop-down menu that is located on the toolbar near the "custom shape tool." Click on the arrow and you will see a selection of different kinds of shapes from which you can choose. For example, if you were going to have a logo in the shape of an animal, you would choose "animals" here.

  5. Step 5

Locate the "Style" menu in the panel that appeared in Step 3. Click on the arrow and select "Buttons." Select the multicolor button. Then choose an animal from the "Animals" menu. The animal will appear in the document pane.

  6. Step 6

Drag the animal to its proper size by left clicking on the corner of the image and holding down shift as you drag the corner.

  7. Step 7

Select the text tool and drag and click on the page to draw a text box. Type in a company name. You have now created a logo in Photoshop Elements.

Tips & Warnings
  • You do not need to include the company name with the logo. In fact, many of the most recognizable logos include no words whatsoever.
  • Be prepared to spend some time fine tuning the logo. It may take a while before you get the exact colors and sizes you want.
