Step 1
Complete a driver's education program. If you are under 18 years of age, taking this program is mandatory.

Complete an application, submit documentation and pay a fee. You will have to complete an application to obtain your driver's license. In addition, you will have to submit documents that prove your identity, such as a passport, military ID and Social Security card. You will also have to pay a fee for your driver's license. The fee is determined by your current age. If you own a vehicle, you will also need to furnish your registration and proof of auto insurance.

www.sxc.huTake the vision exam. To pass this exam, you must have a visual acuity of 20/40 in at least one eye with or without eyeglasses. If you do not meet this requirement, you may be able to obtain a restricted license. If this is the case, then you will need to have a visual acuity of 20/70 in one eye with or without eyeglasses.

Step 4
Take the written test. You will need to take this test if you are a resident of Texas and have not been previously licensed to drive. If you are a new resident in Texas and have a driver's license from another state, then you are not required to take the written test. You can find information on the written test in the Texas Driver's Handbook, located on the Texas Department of Public Safety website.

www.sxc.huTake the road test. If you have never been licensed in any state, you will be required to take the road test. If your driver's license has expired, you are also required to take the road test. However, if you are a new resident of Texas and possess a driver's license from your previous state, then you do not have to take the road test. If required to take the road test, you will need to provide your own vehicle, which needs to be registered, insured and in good working condition.
