How to Make Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 Your Default Browser

You've installed the latest version of Internet Explorer 8 and would like to make it your default browser, but don't know how? Don't worry, it's not hard to set Internet Explorer 8 as your default, read on and learn how in 3 easy steps!

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet Explorer 8
  • Less than a minute
  1. Step 1

    In the first step you will need to go to your start menu, located at the lower left of your screen and click on “Control Panel”.

  2. Step 2

    Once in the control panel, please click on the “Internet Options” icon. Once you do, a new window will open.

  3. Step 3

    Finally, click on the “Programs” tab and click “Make Default” located to the left of the Internet Explorer Icon.

    You can also make Internet Explorer your default directly in your browser, which is handy if you're already in Internet Explorer. Just click on “tools” located in the far right of the tool bar, then go to “Internet Options” in the drop down window. Now all that's left is to click on the “Programs” tab and then “Make Default”, located to the left of the Internet Explorer Icon.

    That's all there is to it!

  • If you should change your mind later you can always go back and set a different browser as your default.
