How to Add Fourth of July Decorations to the Exterior of Your House thumbnail
The flag should be part of any Fourth of July decoration plan.

A Fourth of July theme has to be based on the red, white and blue of the American flag. The decorations around the house need to be secure enough to stand up to any weather changes. If you plan to fly a real flag, follow the flag etiquette rules established by the nation. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Raise the United States flag to the highest point of a flagpole. No other flag can be flown above the U.S. flag under any circumstance. If you don't have a flagpole, you can display the flag from a wooden staff projected from a window or balcony.

    • 2

Do not use the flag as drapery or as part of any costumed character in the yard. Use an Uncle Sam figure for that purpose.

    • 3

Use buntings to drape objects like the gate, fences or a porch. Buntings are half circles of fabric either 3 feet or 6 feet wide. The blue stripe of the bunting must be on top.

    • 4

Insert small novelty flags along the walkway, or put a group of small flags in an empty flower vase or basket on the porch or balcony. These flags are also OK to stick in a wreath. Insert the flags at an angle in the wreath and secure it to the door as normal.

Tips & Warnings

  • These July 4th decorations can also be used for other federal holidays including Memorial Day in May and Veterans Day in November.
