Step 1
**Where do you want to travel?**
Decide exactly where you want to travel before establishing a written budget. For example, if you live on the west coast and you want to travel to the east coast, it could get expensive. Identifying a specific location is the first step in deciding to budget travel. We like to drive to our vacation locations. We save money by driving and not flying. We save money by not having to rent a minivan when we get to the vacation resort. -
Step 2
**How much do you have to spend?**
Calculate your travel budget with your family. Figure out how much you want to spend on travel, lodging, food, tours and souvenirs. How much money do you have to budget travel and are you willing to spend all the money? This vacation should be paid for in cash. Going into debt to enjoy a family vacation is not a good idea. Save all year so you can pay for your family vacation with cash. Share a family vacation with your sibling's family and save money that way. -
Step 3
**Where do you look for good travel deals?**
Find great travel packages online, of course. Search for specific locations and get all family members involved. If more than one person is searching for vacation spots, you will increase your chances of finding a great deal online. Check with your co-workers, neighbors and friends. Find out where they spent their summer vacation. Referrals are an ideal way to get information about a particular family resort.
