Instructions

    • 1

Open a new document in GIMP. In the dialog box that pops up, go to the templates and select the large banner template.

    • 2

Change the foreground color to whatever you want the background of your banner to be. In this example, we will use blue. Then go to the Bucket Fill tool, and fill the canvas with blue.

    • 3

Go to the bottom of the layers panel and create a new transparent layer. Put an image into this layer by copying from the source and pasting it in. Then go to the Scale tool and scale the image up or down to suit your needs. Then use the Move tool to position it.

    • 4

Change the foreground color to whatever you want the text color to be. Then select the Text tool, pick a font and size, and type in the name of your site on the banner.

    • 5

Change the foreground color back to the blue you were using before. Then click on the Blend tool, and drag it across the banner to produce a gradient. You now have banner for your site. Just save it as a JPEG file.
