Choose your hosting. You can start a photography blog on a free blogging site, such as Blogger or WordPress (WordPress offers more customizable options for photography blogs), or you can buy your own domain name and start a blog that way. If you buy your own domain you will also have to sign up and pay for website hosting. Look at other photography blogs to see which blogging platform they use to help you make your choice.

Pick a name. If you create a free blog your chosen name will be part of the web address. For instance, if you use Blogger your domain would be YOURBLOG.blogspot.com. If you are not going the free blog route you will to pick a domain name, such as www.YOURBLOG.com, where YOURBLOG is the name you choose. Have backups in case your first choice is not available. It is a good idea to have the word "photo" or "photography" in the name so that people will find your blog when searching for "photography."

If you are buying your own domain, install your blogging platform. Web hosting companies typically have a one-click install for the WordPress blogging platform. If you are starting a free blog you do not need to do this.

Choose your photography-optimized theme. All blogs have themes, the background designs and styles of the blog. When you start a new blog you have standard themes to choose from, but they are typically not optimized for photography blogs. You can find plenty of free themes on the Internet, as well as some premium themes you have to pay for. The easiest way to find themes optimized for photography blogs is to visit the Wordpress.com Theme Directory and key in "photo" in the search box to get a list of photography-optimized blog themes for WordPress. You can find photography-optimized themes for Blogger at BTemplates.com; click on the "Photolog" category on the lower right side of the page.

Upload your photos and content (maybe a sentence or two about each). You can import directly to the blog post via the "import image" button, or you can host them on a site such as Photobucket and link to the photos.
