How to Remove the Windows XP Login Screen

By default, the Windows XP operating system will display a login screen when your PC computer starts up. However, if you want your system to boot up faster without this delay, you can configure it to bypass the login screen. You should only remove the login screen if you are the only person that uses the computer.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Windows XP
  1. Step 1

    Log in to your computer with an account that has administrative privileges.

  2. Step 2

    Open the "Start" menu and click on the "Run" button.

  3. Step 3

    Type "control userpasswords2" into the text field and press "Enter." A window with various user account options will open.

  4. Step 4

    Go to the "Users" tab at the top of the pop-up window.

  5. Step 5

    Remove the check from the box next to "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer."

  6. Step 6

    Click "OK" and enter the username and password that you want to automatically log in with from now on. The Windows XP login screen has now been removed and your computer will automatically log in with the account you chose.
