Metal retainers and partial dentures have a way of getting dirty through everyday use. You'll need to be diligent in cleaning and refreshing them daily to get the best results. Things You'll Need
- Metal retainer
- Retainer cleaning solution
- Denture tables
- Toothpaste
- Water
- Vinegar
- Toothbrush

Cleaning Your Retainer

Take out your retainer and rinse it with lukewarm water.

Fill a clean glass with water, and put in your cleaning solution or denture tablets.

Submerge your retainer into the cleaning solution. Follow the instructions on the cleaning solution to discern how long you should leave your retainer submerged.

After the required time, remove the retainer and discard the cleaning solution. You may want to brush the retainer with toothpaste to freshen. Focus on the metal areas where germs may collect.

Rinse the retainer with cold, fresh water.
Cleaning Your Retainer Naturally

If you prefer to not use a commercial retainer cleaner, fill a cup with white vinegar.

Submerge the retainer into the vinegar for five minutes.

When the five minutes are up, remove the retainer and discard the vinegar. Scrub the retainer with an old toothbrush to remove any left over particles.

Rinse with cold water.

Tips & Warnings
It's a good idea to clean your retainer at least once a day. If you have trouble remembering, do it the same time each day, such as every night before you go to bed.
Never use mouthwash containing alcohol to clean and freshen your retainer. The alcohol can cause your retainer to warp and crack.
