How to Make Plastic Worm Molds
Making your own plastic worms adds to the enjoyment of the hobby of fishing because there's nothing quite like catching a fish on a lure you made yourself. The only thing better is designing the lures that you make. Making molds for plastic worms and lures you designed, is almost as much fun as catching the fish.
Things You'll Need
- Plastic strips
- Crazy glue
- Hot glue gun and glue
- Lure to be copied
- Cooking spray
- 100% silicone caulk
Instructions
-
-
1
Make a base for your mold box that is larger than the lure you are coping. Allow at least 1/2 inch on each side of your lure and both ends.
-
2
Using crazy glue stick the lure to be copied on the center of the base.
-
-
3
Make a box around the base with plastic strips. Glue the box together with hot glue.
-
4
Spray the inside of the box and the lure with cooking spray. This will act as a release agent for the mold.
-
5
Fill the mold box with 100% silicone caulk. Be sure there are no bubbles in the caulk.
-
6
Place the freshly poured mold in a warm place and allow to sit for a minimum of 24 hours to cure.
-
7
Remove the plastic strip box from the mold. Pull the mold from the base. Trim the mold as necessary to remove any caulk which got under the glued down lure.
-
8
Pour the hot plastic in your new mold and place a piece of plastic over it as a cover. This will make a flat-sided worm.
-
9
Allow the lure to cool slightly and remove from the mold.

Tips & Warnings
The color of the silicone caulk won't matter as long as it is 100% silicone.
