How to Get Rid of Diarrhea in Puppies

Puppy diarrhea can be caused by anything that upsets the digestive tract. Occasional diarrhea that is not accompanied by vomiting can be treated safely at home. Blackberry powder is a safe, natural remedy that will usually stop diarrhea almost immediately, but can be given again about 4 hours later if needed. If the diarrhea persists for 24 hours or worsens, call the vet to prevent dehydration and identify any possible serious underlying causes.

• Blackberries
• Cookie sheet
• Parchment paper
• Oven
• Herb grinder

Instructions

Homemade Blackberry Powder for Puppy Diarrhea

1. Set oven to lowest heat.

2. Line the cookie sheet with parchment paper.

3. Place blackberries in a single layer on the parchment.

4. Put cookie sheet with berries into the oven with door slightly ajar until they are dried hard. Depending on the type of oven and air flow, this could take from 10 to 14 hours. Turn berries a bit as you occasionally check on progress.

5. When dry, remove berries from oven.

6. Shut oven off.

7. Allow berries to cool completely.

8. Grind dried blackberries.

9. Administer 1/4 tsp. to 1/2 tsp. per 10 pounds of puppy weight by sprinkling the proper dosage of blackberry powder into puppy food.
