How to Sanitize a Whirlpool Bathtub

Whirlpool bathtubs are great for relaxing your muscles and frayed nerves, but if you knew what kind of bacteria lurks in your jetted tub, you would have a hard time relaxing. Because it is hard to completely drain a whirlpool of all of the water in the jets and pipes, your tub can a prime environment for the growth of bacteria and fungi. Be wary of using whirlpools outside of your home and sanitize your home whirlpool on a regular basis. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Do quick cleaning before use. If you are using a whirlpool for the first time or a whirlpool outside your home, flush the pipes with a product called Oxy-flush that is used to clean touch stains in toilets (as opposed to Oxyflush, the colon cleanser). To use Oxy-flush to clean your whirlpool bath, fill up the tub above the jets and hold a container of Oxy-flush next to the intake, allowing it to go through the pipes and flush them clean. Run the whirlpool for 30 minutes, drain it and run it again to rinse.

Maintain your whirlpool monthly to keep it sanitized. This can be done with regular household products. Using the same fill-and-run method as used with the Oxy-flush, just add a cup of dishwasher detergent such as Cascade or Palmolive and run the whirlpool for 20 minutes. Bleach and vinegar are also acceptable cleansers to use to sanitize your whirlpool tub.

Use whirlpool spa sanitizer tablets or cleansers every time you use your whirlpool bath. Some of the brand names for these tablets are Ei-Giene Whirlpool Bath Sterilising Tablets or Sani-Bath. These are to be used after each bath to prevent germs from growing in your pipes.

While this article may appear to be giving you some good information about cleaning the pipes surrounding your jetted tub jets, you need to clearly think about the products that are being suggested by the author. In step #1 it says to use oxy-flush, well you may as use the colon cleanser oxyflush, because the first one did not work, and I still had gunk in my jetted tub pipes. In Step #2 it says to sanitize the jetted tub monthly. Let me ask a valid question, "Do you clean your toilets out monthly?" No, you clean them weekly, because they are already bacteria infective actually within a few days after the cleaning. You need to clean your jetted tub on a weekly basis minimum, the bacteria, mildew and algae grows fast in dark, wet places. Also, the author is promoting a number of products, just how many products do we need here to clean the jetted tub pipes. BTW, cascade and oth...
