Writing a successful grant proposal that produces results, takes time, planning, and research.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

To write a successful grant proposal that produces results, you must first take the necessary time to plan, research, and pursue. The grant proposal includes three phases for the process:

    1) Preparation
    2) Written Content
    3) Track your results

  2. Step 2

Preparation time includes identifying and defining what it is you actually want. In other words, what benefit or gain are you looking to achieve, who will benefit as you achieve your goals, and how will that gain benefit your community. Before writing a grant proposal, it is imperative that you take the time to determine or consider these outcomes and write them down. Explain your thoughts and purposes for achieving your goals in clearly and concisely.

  3. Step 3

Once you know what you want, write down a list and short description of your goals. Reread each goal. Make certain that your language is clear and concise and you have explained your purposes behind your goals.

  4. Step 4

    • Develop written statements that describe your goals, your purposes, and pursuit towards your goals.

    • Identify any materials, resources, and staffing you will need.

    • Identify the funding and financial responsibilities.

    • Identify support that is readily available to you (people, finances, resources).

    • Identify any additional funding resources that may be able to assist you.

    • Clearly review and document all proposal guidelines and deadlines that may exist.

    • Create a spreadsheet or calendar to track all deadlines for completing the writing, delivering the submissions, and follow-up time for status on the proposal review.

  5. Step 5

Staying organized is an important key to the process. Stay aware of all your submission dates and deadlines, and track the funding.
