Installing electrical conduit can be done a few different ways, there is conduit that is used for large feeders or smaller conduit for branch circuit lighting and Power. Ill explain how to install metallic conduit for installation on a home or commercial setting.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • conduit 1" Metallic
  • couplings metallic
  • one hole straps
  1. Step 1

Installing electrical conduit in a commercial setting takes some skil and knowledge but this is something you can do even as a novice with the proper information. To begin you need to mark out where the conduit is to be installed. Lets say it on the side of a house supplying additional power for receptacles.

  2. Step 2

To begin go to the panel of the house, take the knockout seal out at the top of the panel and fit a 1" coupling inside the panel making sure that power is disconnected from the panel or take cardboard and cover the breakers and the top feed section. To begin running conduit you will need to take the conduit and if it needs to be bent, you can use a 1" bender to bend. Most bends need to be done by a proffessional for a better overall finished product. When running conduit on a wall if need be anchors should be set at 10 foot intervals. Achors to be used should be either plastic achors or wedge anchors if anchoring in concrete.

  3. Step 3

Continue running the conduit to your final destination and when terminating into a box for receptacle make sure everything is secured. Lastly when running any type of conduit be careful of tools being missplaced especially on job sites where as there may be loose fingers around.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always use a level when running conduit.
  • Be careful of power tools.
  • Turn off all power to the panel when working on electrical systems
