How to Make Wax Paper Flowers

Well crafted paper flowers are a beautiful centerpiece that lasts longer than real flowers. Wax paper flowers are not ruined if they get wet, although they are less colorful than their crepe and tissue paper counterparts. Some types of paper flowers work better than others when crafted with wax paper.

Instructions

  1. Wax Paper Roses

    • 1

Cut 16 circles of paper about 6 inches in diameter. Poke a small hole with a needle in the center of each one. Stack the papers on top of each other, and then thread wire or thin sticks through the holes.

    • 2

Make a loop or small knot in the wire on top of the flower. Pull the wire gently so the small knot is close to the paper petals.

    • 3

Turn upside down. Pinch no more than an inch of the flower tightly around the stem. Bind this with a little transparent tape.

    • 4

Cut another wax paper circle 2 inches in diameter. Trim the edges to make tiny points, like a star: this is the calyx of the rose. Poke a hole in the middle of the calyx, and then thread onto the bottom of the rose. Use a little glue to attach the calyx over the transparent tape.

    • 5

Turn right side up and gently ruffle the petals. You now have a white rose.

    Wax Paper Daisies

    • 6

Cut 2 circles about 6 inches in diameter. Cut some points out of the edges of the circles, similar to a star shape. You are forming petals. Cut another wax paper circle about 2 inches in diameter.

    • 7

Put a dab of glue in the center of one of the larger circles, and glue the other one on top. Make sure the petals are not lined up, but alternate them. Glue the smaller circle in the center of the top piece: this is the center of your daisy.

    • 8

Cut a calyx for your daisy. Glue green pipe cleaner on the back, and glue the calyx on top of the pipe cleaner. Allow to dry thoroughly.

Tips & Warnings

  • Purchase florist's wire at a flower shop. Vary the sizes, making the flowers larger and smaller. Purchase green florist's tape to wrap around the stems.

  • Wax paper can be slippery to work with, so take your time.
