How to Replace Car Mirrors on a Honda Accord

Replacing the car mirrors in your Honda Accord is not an overly difficult repair. With a few common household tools, you can perform this repair yourself. You may find that the mirrors are very expensive, so saving money by installing them yourself can be very helpful.

Things You'll Need

  • Flathead screwdriver
  • 3/8 inch drive ratchet with 3 inch long extension
  • 3/8 inch drive 10 millimeter socket
  • Telescopic magnet
  • Open the door and window all the way on the side of the Honda Accord you want to start first.

  • Pry the plastic molding off of the interior door in the upper corner that covers the mirror. This molding is simply popped or snapped into place with internal plastic plugs. Apply equal parts of gentleness and determination when removing it. Pry around the edges first being careful not to scratch the paint on the door with the screwdriver.

  • Remove any foam insulated plugs in the skeleton of the doorframe under the molding to expose the three studs and nuts attaching the mirror to the door.

  • Reach into the center hole of the door frame and pull out the wire harness that the mirror plugs into. Unplug the mirror from the harness using the flathead screwdriver to press in the clip lock.

  • Place the extension and socket onto the ratchet and remove the three nuts from the mirror studs. Use the telescopic magnet alongside the end of the socket to prevent the nuts from accidentally falling into the door cavity. Be careful that the mirror doesn't begin to disengage from the door when loosening and removing the last nut so it won't scratch the paint.on the exterior door panel.

  • Remove the old mirror and insert the new mirror.

  • Thread the nuts onto the new mirror to hold it in place, then plug the wire harness back in. Tuck the wire into the door cavity.

  • Tighten the nuts to secure the mirror to the door. Replace the foam plugs (if applicable), and replace the plastic molding.

  • Repeat this procedure for the other side.

Tips & Warnings
