Things You'll Need:

  • Westell wireless router
  • Broadband connection
  • Ethernet cable

    Installation

  1. Step 1

Connect your broadband coaxial cable to the corresponding connector on the rear of the router. Connect the power supply to your router. Plug the power supply into an available electrical outlet. Wait until the "Power" and "Coax WAN" LEDs are lit solid green before proceeding.

  2. Step 2

Connect one end of the Ethernet cable to one of the numbered ports on the back of your router. Connect the other end of the cable to an open Ethernet port on your computer. Examine the LED lights on the front of the router. Find the numbered light that corresponds to your chosen router port. Wait until this light is lit solid green.

  3. Step 3

Turn on your computer and open your web browser. Navigate to http://192.168.1.1. Click "OK." Configure your log-in account with a new user name and password. Select the correct time zone from the list of available options. Click "OK."

  4. Step 4

Click on "My Network," then click on "Network Connections." Click "Quick Setup."
If your ISP has provided settings different from those that are automatically selected, make changes where necessary. Click "Apply" then click "OK."

  5. Step 5

Click the "Wireless" icon in the upper menu bar. Click "Basic Security Settings." Configure your WiFi security settings as desired. Make a note of these settings for future use. Click "Apply" then click "Logout."

  6. Step 6

Confirm that the computer you wish to connect wirelessly has any requisite WiFi adapter installed and active. Turn it on and open the control panel used to establish and maintain a wireless connection. This will vary, depending on your operating system. Enter the WiFi security settings you chose for your router. Repeat as necessary for other computers in your network. Installation is now complete.

Tips & Warnings
  • When configuring your router, choose a user name and password that will be difficult to guess. For best results, use a combination of letters and numerals. To ensure that the wireless signal is as strong as possible, try to situate your router in a centralized location. The more walls between your router and your computer, the weaker the signal.
