How to Use a Halti Lead
Being dragged around the block by your dog is an unpleasant experience. The Halti head collar is a non-painful training device which helps a dog learn to heel properly and stop pulling by wrapping around the head, rather than the neck, creating pressure on the muzzle. The Halti lead is a double-ended leash that was designed to be used in conjunction with the Halti collar. The combination of products creates a system with two points of contact, rather than one, which decreases the chance of unintentional injury and allows dog owners to safely control their pets, no matter their size. 1
Coax the dog's muzzle through the adjustable loop of the Halti by holding a biscuit through the loop. While the dog eats the biscuit, fasten the buckle behind the dog's ears. Make sure the straps run under the ears and do not rub against the eyes. Combining a reward with the new collar can help convince your dog the Halti is a good thing.
-
2
Adjust the collar to fit snugly around the head, but loose enough to slide one finger underneath.

3
Keep the Halti on the dog for five to 10 minutes three times a day for the first week. Watch the dog closely and do not attach the lead to the collar. This will allow your dog to get used to wearing it and reduce the tendency to resist or struggle when the collar is put on.
-
4
Distract the dog if you see it trying to chew or rub the collar off and reward it for leaving it alone. When the dog stops fussing with the collar for five minutes at a time, reward her with a new toy or other significant treat. This way the dog associates the wearing of the collar with the rewards.
-
5
Attach one end of the Halti lead to the metal ring hanging beneath the dog's chin and the other to the regular neck collar. This creates a safety system for use which prevents you from accidentally pulling too hard, risking injury to your pet. This also stops the dog from running away if the Halti collar accidentally comes off.
-
6
Walk the dog, ensuring there is some slack in lead between you. If the dog lunges ahead, the pressure created by the lead around his muzzle will cause it to slow down naturally, providing you both with a more pleasant walking experience and leaving your shoulder safely in the socket.

Tips & Warnings
The Halti lead can be used in a similar manner with the Halti training harness.
Do not walk the dog with the Halti collar until it is able to wear it without trying to remove it for at least five minutes. Do not jerk the lead to get the dog's attention or your could injure its neck. The Halti collar is inappropriate for use with flat-nosed breeds or dogs with breathing difficulties; for these breeds the Halti harness is recommended.

Great advice for some I guess. Did it really take your dog a week to get used to it? I did put it on and off mine 2-3 times hen took him for a walk now when he sees it he knows its walk time. BTW my dog is a Siberian Husky how does urban mushing with me and the Halti I use for walks so he doesn't pull when walking and it works great and now he walks right next to me. A+++ product
